Description

Wire Works Whisky is underpinned by our unique heritage and made with a focus on flavour and proud Derbyshire provenance. The First Release left the Distillery in February 2022, and since then, we’ve been grateful to receive a great response, with awards for several Wire Works Whisky releases.

Wire Works Necessary Evil Finish is a core flavour focused release based on our unique provenance and heritage. A single malt whisky finished in casks previously used to age an award-winning imperial stout (Necessary Evil) brewed locally up the A6 by our friends at Thornbridge Brewery.

Wire Works Whisky is distilled and matured in a region with a long history of beer making, in the industrial heart of England. At one time in the past, 1 in 4 pints of beer sold in Britain came from just down the road in Burton-upon-Trent. The region is steeped in brewing heritage, and the great flavours that can be created through key aspects such as yeast and fermentation; a central focus in our whisky-making.

Provenance is a core part of Wire Works Whisky DNA, and our unique location has informed our whisky-making from the outset. Necessary Evil Finish takes our location and close relationships one step further, and this year’s release promises to be a local hero.

The 2023 limited edition of Wire Works Necessary Finish has an added dimension over last year. The casks, previously used to age Thornbridge’s award winning Necessary Evil Imperial stout, were originally used to mature Pedro Ximénez sherry (‘PX’). These previous uses impart additional magic on our single malt whisky, and the PX character adds additional layers of complexity.

A sweet & savoury stout finish single malt whisky, with hazelnuts, light roast coffee and roasted malt on the nose. Cacao nibs, dates, prunes and marmalade on the palate, and a sweet malty, smoky
