Description

Pineau des Charentes Rouge is a fruity and rich Pineau with a wide range of aromas both fresh and round. This red Pineau draws its aromatic power from a unique know-how from the Cellar Master. The grapes are harvested from a rigorous plot selection to be delicately pressed. The grape must then undergoes a 48-hour settling stage to eliminate all the course particles. After fermentation, the must is mixed with Cognac to reach 17.5% vol. followed by ageing in wooden barrels for six months.

Clear, intense red colour. A bouquet of expressive fresh and fruity notes, marked by red fruits and candy notes. A round and fresh taste, with a balanced and sweet finish.

Le Pineau des Charentes is a mistelle, I.e. a beverage made by adding grape spirit to sweet, unfermented grape juice, which stops fermentation. According to legend, Pineau des Charentes was born in the 16th century when a winegrower added grape must to a barrel of Cognac by mistake. When he saw what he had done, and noticed that the wine had stopped fermenting, he left the mixture in the barrel and forgot about it. When he went back several years later, he was amazed to see that it had turned into a delicious sweet wine: The first Pineau was born!
